Wild elephant encounter leaves Maungdaw Twsp man needing medical treatment
A man who was attacked by a wild elephant in Maungdaw Township, Arakan State, is in need of medical treatment, family members said.

A man who was attacked by a wild elephant in Maungdaw Township, Arakan State, is in need of medical treatment, family members said.
U Gundiya, 58, was attacked by the elephant on November 29 while searching for a missing cow.
Daw Tint Tint Than, U Gundiya’s 30-year-old daughter, told DMG: “My father was herding other people’s cows. One cow was missing and he was searching for it. We are a poor family and we cannot afford the medical expenses for him.”
U Gundiya sustained injuries to both legs, his left eye and abdomen, the Maramagri Youth Network (MYN) said.
U Hla Tint, a MYN member, said: “He is now at Maungdaw General Hospital. He cannot speak now. His family cannot afford his medical treatment. We’d like to request help for him.”
U Gundiya, a father of three, is the family’s breadwinner.
Wild elephants are frequently reported in Maungdaw and Buthidaung townships. Many residents worry about venturing into forested areas for fear of being attacked by wild elephants.
