Fierce clashes continue between regime forces and Chin resistance groups in Kanpetlet Township, southern Chin State, as the military carries out daily airstrikes targeting Kanpetlet, Mindat and Matupi towns.

Heavy fighting broke out near Kanpetlet Town on May 21 as Chin resistance forces led by the Chin Brotherhood confronted advancing junta troops. Kanpetlet remains under the control of resistance forces.

“Fighting remains intense every day near Kanpetlet 6-Mile. Chin resistance forces are still blocking junta troops from advancing. Alongside the clashes, the regime is carrying out daily airstrikes on Kanpetlet and surrounding areas. Jet fighters are also bombing Mindat and Matupi,” a local source said.

The Chin People’s Union (CPU) said in a statement released on May 23 that the regime conducted 36 airstrikes using jet fighters on resistance-controlled areas in Chin State between May 11 and May 22.

According to the statement, the aerial attacks killed two civilians, injured many others, and destroyed homes, shops and public buildings.

The regime continues to launch repeated airstrikes on both civilian and military targets across Mindat, Matupi and Kanpetlet towns.

Due to the ongoing conflict, the CPU urged residents to avoid gatherings, prepare bomb shelters and trenches, and remain alert for possible air raids.

The regime is reportedly transporting thousands of troops from Light Infantry Divisions 55, 88, 99 and 101 toward Artillery Battalion No. 368 in Kyaukhtu Town via Saw Township in Magway Region before launching further offensives into southern Chin State.

More than 1,000 junta personnel have reportedly been deployed in the Yaw region, where clashes with Chin resistance forces have continued for about 10 days.

“Although we have successfully blocked junta troops from advancing, the regime is preparing to reinforce them with more than 1,000 additional troops. This suggests the fighting could become prolonged and more intense,” said Salai Yaw Mang, secretary of the CPU/CPA.

The Yaw Army stated that daily clashes are occurring as the Yaw Army (YA) and allied resistance groups intercept regime columns advancing along the Pauk-Tabayin-Kyaukhtu road section in Magway Region.

Southern Chin State, which borders the Yaw region of Magway Region, is a strategically important route connecting to Arakan State.

Military and political analysts say the regime is attempting to penetrate the Chin mountain corridor in order to advance toward Paletwa and Arakan State, areas currently controlled by the Arakan Army.
