The Arakkha Army (AA) will soon be in full control of Maungdaw, Arakan State, the ethnic armed group said in a statement on August 24.
Junta soldiers, military-trained armed Muslim men, the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), the Rohingya Solidarity Organization (RSO), and the Arakan Rohingya Army (ARA), who prepared a defence in Maungdaw, have been fleeing and surrendering under the attack of the AA, the statement said.
Maungdaw will become a border town that will come under the AA’s overall control, the ethnic armed group added.
The regime, which is sure to give up Maungdaw, has burned down houses and buildings in the border town and is fleeing by means of fighting, according to the AA.
Junta soldiers and armed Muslim men who fled the fighting are being hunted down by the AA, the statement reads.
The AA has reported that military equipment and ammunition have been seized continuously, as does continue the arrest of fleeing junta soldiers and their associates every day.
The battle for control of Maungdaw started on August 4, 2024, but the military camps surrounding the border town have been taken one by one for about three months, the AA said.
The battle for control of Maungdaw continues to rage, the AA said, as the regime’s few remaining defensive positions continue to be attacked.
The regime is fiercely resisting with army, navy and air support to prevent Maungdaw from falling into the hands of the AA.
