Fighting between regime forces and a coalition force led by the Arakan Army has intensified in recent days in Laymyethna Township, Ayeyarwady Region, with the military carrying out heavy airstrikes.
Local residents reported that fierce clashes are taking place near Setsetyo and Pantawgyi villages, which are under the control of revolutionary forces. Several homes were reportedly destroyed by fire due to airstrikes.
“The Myanmar military launched an offensive near Setsetyo and Pantawgyi villages, leading to the clashes. Since these villages have been controlled by revolutionary forces for some time, the military is attempting to retake them,” a resident said.
Setsetyo and Pantawgyi villages, which have been under the control of revolutionary forces since early 2025, are strategically important locations along the Pathein-Monywa Road.
A joint force led by the Arakan Army is conducting military operations in Laymyethna, Ingapu, Yekyi, Thabaung, and Pathein townships in Ayeyarwady Region. The alliance currently controls sections of the Pathein-Monywa Road in Laymyethna, Ingapu, and Yekyi townships.
Local sources also reported clashes near the junta’s Artillery Battalion 344 in Yekyi Township, where regime troops were reportedly retreating.
A military source said, “Fighting is ongoing. The regime is launching offensives because it wants to regain control of the Pathein-Monywa Road. They are using both airstrikes and paramotors to drop bombs.”
The Myanmar military frequently clashes with revolutionary forces in Laymyethna, Yekyi, and Thabaung townships as it attempts to secure the Pathein-Monywa Road.
In Ayeyarwady Region, the Arakan Army and No. 29 strategic joint forces have been carrying out military operations since 2025, capturing several junta camps and sections of the Pathein-Monywa Road.
