Ethnic Myanmar nationals in Japan staged a protest in Tokyo on July 23 calling for truth and justice over the unlawful killing of civilians by the Tatmadaw in ethnic parts of Myanmar.

The Kamayut Township Court has sentenced two Arakanese student activists charged under Section 19 of the Peaceful Assembly Law to one month in prison.

More than 230 schools have yet to reopen in Chin State’s Paletwa Township, where clashes between the Tatmadaw and the Arakan Army are an ongoing concern, according to the township education office.

Residents of more than 60 villages along the upper reaches of the Kaladan River in Paletwa Township, Chin State, are in urgent need of food and medicine, according to locals.

The military has launched what were described as “counter-terrorism operations” against the Arakan Army near Kyauktan, Hteeswel and Aung Thazi villages in Rathedaung Township, Arakan State. 

 The families of five Ramree Township men arrested by the Tatmadaw are concerned for the detainees’ safety after one of their peers died in military custody last week.

Two cottage hospitals in Ramree and Taungup townships have been without doctors — the latter facility since 2017 — and face calls from local residents that they be properly staffed with licensed physicians. 

A patient from Kyauktaw Township known as Case 339, who tested positive for coronavirus, was found to have been in contact with illegal entrants from Bangladesh, according to the township medical superintendent.
