Thousands of residents of Arakan State’s Ramree town and locals in the surrounding area have fled their homes due to junta artillery strikes since fighting in the area.

Junta lobbyists are campaigning to arrest those who criticise the regime, including those who write about the regime’s human rights violations on social media, whether politicians, social activists, artists or average folk.

The regime is accused of targeting civilians who are not involved in the fighting in Arakan State, using heavy weapons and small arms fire, and burning homes and food.

Sugarcane farmers in Arakan State are facing financial losses due to the junta’s road blockades following the latest hostilities between the Myanmar military and Arakan Army (AA).

At least 40 ferryboat helmsmen and residents detained by Myanmar’s military at BXT Port in the Arakan State capital Sittwe have reportedly been charged by the regime, family members said.

More than 80 percent of airstrikes by the regime since the coup have targeted civilian villages across the country, according to a report released today by the BNI-Myanmar Peace Monitor.
