A dead body was found in the compound of Myoma Mosque in Maungdaw, Arakan State, on the morning of March 24, according to the Maungdaw Myoma Police Station.
“Based on a suspicious tipoff, a search operation this morning has led to the discovery of a body buried in a corner of the mosque,” a police officer from the Maungdaw Myoma Police Station confirmed to DMG.
The victim is thought to be a man with mental illness and has been identified as Sawlein Mullah, a 20-year-old from Shwesar village.
Based on the suspicious tipoff, the case was investigated by the police when they summoned the mosque board of trustees, Sawlein and Saw Tint. The man was found dead in a corner of the mosque after being found tied to a rope, beaten and left untreated as a punishment for stealing wood from the mosque, the police official said.
According to the Maungdaw Myoma Police Station, two men have been charged under Section 302/114/201 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
