Junta troops stationed in Minpyin Village, Kyaukphyu Township, Arakan State, are retreating towards Yaynantaung Village after coming under heavy artillery and drone attacks by the Arakan Army (AA), according to sources familiar with the military situation.
On 14 November, a junta column advancing from Yaynantaung Village towards Minpyin Village was hit by AA forces, leaving at least 30 soldiers dead before retreating.
"The junta troops are gradually withdrawing. The Arakan Army is clearing the retreat route with heavy weapons. Only a few soldiers remain and have fled towards Yaynantaung Village," said a local resident.
A video clip of the AA using heavy weapons circulated on social media on 14 November, showing junta soldiers arriving at Minpyin Village to document a radar station. At least 20 soldiers were reportedly killed in the attack.
During the fighting on 14 and 15 November, at least 10 junta soldiers stationed near the radar station staff quarters and around the village were killed, according to sources on the ground.
"On 14 November, a junta column that came to Minpyin Village was intercepted by the Arakan Army and forced to retreat. When the AA attacked strategically, the junta soldiers could not resist and fled," said another local resident.
Sources estimate that junta troops now positioned in Yaynantaung Village-more than a mile from Minpyin-are preparing to launch a counterattack.
Since early November, junta forces have advanced on Thaingchaung, Gawtu, and Yaynantaung villages, displacing residents from at least 20 villages in the Hsinboke, Sabahtar, and Minyat areas, including nearby Chaungphyar, Chaungwa, and Chaungmyaung.
