The 47th anniversary of Arakan State Day will be observed in the Arakan State capital Sittwe on December 15, according to the state’s military government.
Arrangements have been made to celebrate Arakan State Day as the Covid-19 infection rate is declining, and peace and stability have been restored to the region, the Arakan State Administration Council said.
“The local government will organise the 47th anniversary Arakan State Day commemoration at U Ottama Hall in Sittwe,” said U Than Tun, a member of the Arakan State military council.
This year’s Arakan State Day celebrations are scheduled to include Arakanese traditional wrestling (Kyin) and other sporting events.
The 46th anniversary of Arakan State Day was celebrated virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with the Ministry of Arakanese Ethnic Affairs in Yangon Region and the We Love Rakhine group jointly organising a brief live event online
Previous Arakan State Day celebrations held in Sittwe have included football competitions, Arakanese traditional wrestling, poetry recitation contests and literary awards.
Daw Nyo Aye, chairwoman of the Rakhine Women’s Network, welcomed the planned celebration of Arakan State Day this year.
“I warmly welcome the celebration of Arakan State Day this year. I want all the other tribes to participate in Arakan State Day celebrations this year,” she said.
