Arakan youths calling for no torture on civilians during interrogation

The Arakan New Generation Network issued a statement on 8 October, calling for no torture on civilians during interrogations in Arakan State.

During battles between the Tatmadaw and the Arakan Army (AA), some civilians were arrested and some died during interrogations that were thought of as torture, said Ma Oo Khin Thein,

 “Some people that have been interrogated are civilians, and people suffer from wars in different ways. Innocent people are suspected and arrested, now there are many arrested youths. We want soldiers not to target innocent people during battles,” she said.

 The Network also called on the government to help and support internally displaced persons, to let the local and international organizations help IDPs and not to charge the youths who are calling for justice and peace.

“We hope that all the requests we have made will be fulfilled. Moreover, we will continue trying in any way to achieve our goals,” Ma Oo Khin Thein said. 

“People should have freedom of expression. We do not want any obstruction while we all are trying to develop the country,” she said.

In Arakan State, during state army interrogations related to AA, 16 persons died already.

The Tatmadaw True News Information Team issued the statement that they will set up investigation tribunal as of 12 July, but nothing has resulted yet.
