Fighting is reportedly ongoing in Laymyethna Township, Ayeyarwady Region, as the Myanmar military has sent reinforcements to launch offensives against anti-regime forces.
The junta has been reinforcing Laymyethna Township since July 15.
Locals say junta troops are stationed in Hsisonegon Village and are launching an offensive to regain control of the Pathein-Monywa road, which is controlled by anti-regime forces.
"The military regime is conducting military operations to retake control of the Pathein-Monywa road by deploying troops sent by sea to Hsisonegon Village. There are clashes between the two sides in this area. Fighting occurred near Setsetyo and Sawpyar villages," lamented another local man in Laymyethna.
Some homes were destroyed in a junta airstrike on Setsetyo Village in Laymyethna Township on July 29, locals said.
Locals say the regime's reinforcements include many conscripts. In Laymyethna Township, the junta controls the eastern side of the Pathein-Monywa road, while the western side is controlled by anti-regime forces.
"The military regime is reinforcing its forces in Laymyethna and deploying troops, perhaps to gain full control of the Pathein-Monywa road, or perhaps to ensure security ahead of the election," said another local man.
"The military regime is conducting military operations in Laymyethna to ensure that the election can be held."
The Arakan Army (AA) and local anti-regime forces are conducting joint military operations in Ayeyarwady Region, with clashes reported in Ingapu, Laymyethna, Yekyi, Thabaung and Pathein townships. Led by the AA, the coalition forces have captured at least 10 camps in Ayeyarwady Region, including military outposts and police stations belonging to the regime.
