A junta column attempting to reinforce Point 666 hilltop camp near Mathone Village in Padaung Township, Bago Region, was intercepted by a coalition force led by the Arakan Army and is now facing heavy air support from Myanmar’s military regime, according to military sources.
Sources said nearly the entire junta column was destroyed during the fighting.
“The military regime is trying to reinforce the Point 666 hilltop camp, but it is being crushed by AA-led forces. The military structure has been destroyed and even majors have been killed, so airstrikes are being carried out day and night,” a military source told DMG.
The military regime reportedly dispatched a column of about 80 troops from weapons factory No. 16 to the Point 666 hilltop camp on December 22.
Several junta soldiers, including Major Wai Yan Lin of Defence Services Academy Intake 53, are reported to have been killed in the clashes, though DMG has not been able to independently verify the information.
Point 666 hilltop camp, located near Bagankwe Village, was seized by the Arakan Army in October but was handed back to the military regime a few days later. The camp is currently under siege.
Military observers believe the reinforcement effort is a pre-emptive move to protect weapons factories in Padaung Township and to prevent the unification of revolutionary forces operating in Bago and Ayeyarwady regions.
“The military regime’s efforts to reinforce the Point 666 hilltop camp are primarily aimed at protecting weapons factories in Bago Region,” a military observer said. “As Padaung Township borders Ayeyarwady Region and Arakan State, the regime is also taking precautions against simultaneous offensives by joint forces led by the Arakan Army.”
The military regime is currently engaged in fighting resistance forces on the Padaung front in Bago Region, deploying Light Infantry Battalion Nos. 361, 362, 373, 364, 365, 366, 367, 368, 369 and 370 under Military Operations Command 10.
Weapons factories No. 5, No. 6, No. 9 and No. 16 are located in Padaung Township in western Bago Region, where clashes between the military regime and resistance forces have intensified.
The Arakan Army and allied forces have been fighting in Padaung Township since January 2025, with recent offensives reaching weapons factories No. 6 and No. 16.
