The Arakan Army (AA) has seized Gote Kyi Village, a heavily fortified junta outpost along the An–Padan road in Magway Region’s Ngape Township, according to military sources close to the AA.
The AA launched its assault on September 26 and fully captured the village on September 28.
“There are no junta soldiers left. They all fled or withdrew. Now the junta troops are only holding their position at Nat Yekan strategic hill,” said a military source close to the AA.
About 100 junta soldiers had been stationed at Gote Kyi Village. During the fighting, some were killed and others reportedly captured by the AA.
Gote Kyi lies about two miles from Nat Yekan, a key strategic hill where junta forces have established a strong defensive post.
Following the fall of Gote Kyi, junta forces launched continuous airstrikes on September 28 using jet fighters and Y-12 aircraft, and continued strikes into September 29, according to ground sources.
Currently, only Nat Yekan strategic hill remains under junta control along the An–Padan road, with AA forces surrounding the position from multiple sides.
“With AA’s ongoing offensives, Nat Yekan is on the verge of falling. If it collapses, the AA will nearly have full control of the An–Padan road. For the junta, this would be a major loss. Once AA takes Nat Yekan, the junta’s Defence Industry Factories (KaPaSa) on the other side of the Arakan Yoma mountain range will automatically be under threat. For AA, this will be a significant strategic advantage,” said an Arakan military analyst.
The AA and its allied forces have been blocking and attacking along the An–Padan road since early February this year, targeting Nat Yekan and steadily overrunning junta outposts along the Arakan Yoma range.
