Four local men from Kainggyi Village, part of Arakan State's Maungdaw Township, have been missing for about three days, with no indication as to their whereabouts or wellbeing.
The four men left home on September 30 to go fishing and family members have not been able to contact them since, local residents said.
"The villagers searched for the four men, but didn't find them. I don't know if they were arrested. Family members are worried about their safety," said a local resident of Kainggyi Village.
The four men have been identified as U Hsai Waing and his three sons.
Muslim armed groups such as the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), Rohingya Solidarity Organization (RSO) and Arakan Rohingya Army (ARA) have been accused of killing local people in Maungdaw Township.
"ARSA, RSO and ARA are active in Maungdaw Township," noted a resident of Maungdaw. "Some local residents have been killed by Muslim armed groups while collecting vegetables or going to local bazaars. It is certain that locals will be killed if they encounter Muslim armed groups. We should be aware of Muslim armed groups."
The bodies of seven ethnic Khami men from Gandaryone displacement camp in Buthidaung Township, Arakan State, who were brutally killed by armed Muslim men, were discovered in July. They were killed by the military-trained Muslim militants near Latpanshae aka Mawniko Village in Buthidaung Township on July 18 while collecting bamboo shoots.
Rural people in Maungdaw Township primarily make a living by cutting down timber and bamboo, collecting vegetables, farming and fishing.
