GSCN, SYCB urge revolutionary forces to end armed clashes, resolve disputes through dialogue

The Generations’ Solidarity Coalition of Nationalities (GSCN) and Students and Youth Congress of Burma (SYCB) have called on ethnic revolutionary organisations (EROs) and other revolutionary forces to immediately halt armed confrontations among themselves and resolve political disagreements through dialogue.

The two organisations made the appeal in a joint statement issued to mark the International Day of Peace, observed annually on September 21. The United Nations marked this year’s day under the theme “Invest in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day.”

The statement said Myanmar has been experiencing political conflict and armed confrontation for decades and that the situation has become more complicated since the military coup on February 1, 2021.

GSCN and SYCB said that while revolutionary forces are fighting against the military dictatorship and seeking to establish a federal democratic union, armed clashes and tensions have also emerged among some revolutionary organisations.

The groups warned that disputes among resistance forces could weaken the broader struggle against military rule and undermine efforts to build a federal democratic union.

They therefore called on EROs and other revolutionary forces to immediately stop armed confrontations with one another and to resolve political disagreements through dialogue and negotiation.

The statement also urged revolutionary organisations to prioritise the interests of the people and strengthen cooperation and coordination in the common struggle to end military dictatorship and establish a federal democratic union.

GSCN and SYCB further called on the international community to provide meaningful support for Myanmar’s efforts to end military rule and build a federal democratic system based on equality and self-determination.

The groups also appealed to the people of Myanmar to continue scrutinising revolutionary organisations and encourage them to remain committed to the goals and aspirations of the revolution.

They said ending military dictatorship, preventing armed conflicts among revolutionary forces and resolving political disagreements through dialogue are essential to achieving lasting peace and building a future federal democratic union.

The statement comes amid efforts by GSCN to play a greater coordinating role among revolutionary groups. Earlier this month, GSCN announced that it had decided to position itself as a coordination body seeking to bridge different revolutionary forces.
