AA releases statement addressing rising military tensions in Arakan State

Military tensions are escalating day by day and the theatre of war is expanding in Arakan State, the United League of Arakan/Arakan Army (ULA/AA) said in a statement on Tuesday.

The Myanmar military has been mobilising its troops and bringing in reinforcements and additional weapons in what appears to be preparations for further military operations, according to the AA statement.

The AA urged people not to travel near outposts and checkpoints of the Myanmar military and border guard police, and not to travel except in cases of life-threatening and health emergencies, and to notify the relevant AA and ULA offices in advance if people need to travel.

The military has deliberately imposed a nighttime curfew in some Arakan State townships in order to suppress local people, said the AA. The regime has imposed a nighttime curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. in Maungdaw, it cited by way of example.

Local people from dozens of villages in Maungdaw are facing food shortages and various other difficulties as the regime has imposed tight restrictions on the transportation of goods and travel, applying to both roadways and waterways, said the AA statement.

DMG was unable to reach Myanmar junta spokesman Major General Zaw Min Tun and Arakan State Security and Border Affairs Minister Colonel Kyaw Thura for comment.
