The Arakan Army (AA) seized a military artillery regiment and some tactical command bases in Kyauktaw, Mrauk-U and Rathedaung townships in Arakan State on January 12 and 14, the ethnic armed group said in a statement.
The AA captured the military’s Artillery Regiment 377 in Kansauk Village, Kyauktaw Township, at around 3:30 a.m. on January 14.
The AA also seized the Yay Soe Chaung tactical command base in Rathedaung Township at about 12 noon on January 14.
Regime soldiers from the Yay Soe Chaung tactical command base fled the camp, realising that they could no longer hold out as the AA continued to occupy the military’s strategic tactical command bases, the statement said.
Some regime soldiers managed to escape from the captured military camps and are being hunted down, the AA added.
The AA clashed with some regime soldiers who escaped from military outposts near Khamaungseik Village in Maungdaw Township at around 2 p.m. on January 14, with the ethnic armed group saying it killed at least 20 regime soldiers and seized weapons and military equipment during the clash.
The AA also seized the Lin Mway Taung military camp in Mrauk-U Township and a haul of weapons at about 11 a.m. on January 12, it said in a statement on January 14.
The AA has seized nearly 160 Border Guard Force (BGF) outposts and police stations abandoned by junta troops, as well as two tactical command bases, during the latest hostilities in Arakan State.
