Myanmar military troops and the Arakan Army (AA) clashed between Gutar Pyin and Taung villages in Arakan State’s Buthidaung Township on Wednesday morning.

Family members say they have not been in contact with two local men in Arakan State’s Kyauktaw Township who were recently detained by the Myanmar military.

Myanmar’s military regime has opened a case against two detained village administrators from Buthidaung Township under Section 17(1) of the Unlawful Associations Act at the township court, according to family members of the accused.

Family members are concerned for the wellbeing of a 13-year-old from Arakan State’s Maungdaw Township who was detained five days ago.

The Myanmar military raided the Yanaungmyay camp for internally displaced people (IDPs) in Buthidaung town, Arakan State, at around 1 a.m. on October 4, opening fire during the course of the raid and causing concern among resident IDPs.

Myanmar’s military government has accused anti-regime forces of killing Dr. Myint Myint San, the education officer for Maungdaw District, Arakan State, the junta-controlled Myanmar Alinn newspaper reported on Tuesday. 

Nine civilians were killed and 19 others were injured by air and artillery strikes from the Myanmar military regime in September in Kayah (Karenni) State, according to the Karenni Nationalities Defence Force (KNDF).

Six residents of Thabeik Taung Village in Arakan State’s Buthidaung Township were detained by Myanmar military personnel on September 24, and family members are concerned about the fate of the detainees, who have since been held incommunicado.

Twenty-five villagers, including residents of Moung Swel Village in Mrauk-U Township, Arakan State, were recently arrested by the Myanmar military on suspicion and nearly all have been released, but one villager is reportedly still being held. 

The owner of a pharmacy in Mrauk-U, Arakan State, was reportedly arrested by junta soldiers on Monday morning.

With numerous school-aged children among those who have fled their homes due to renewed fighting between the Myanmar military and the Arakan Army (AA) in Arakan State over recent months, disruptions to their education are a growing concern.

The education officer for Maungdaw District in Arakan State was reportedly stabbed to death at around 6 p.m. on Sunday, according to the local education community.

The Shwe Pyi Tan ferryboat service, which runs the largest water transportation network in Arakan State, is still barred from operating in the state’s north after being ordered by the Inland Water Transport department to suspend operations on September 15.
