A female high school teacher who is said to have been part of the anti-coup Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) in Taungup since its earliest days was arrested, according to witnesses.

Myanmar’s military regime arrested more young people recently in the Mon State towns of Mawlamyine and Kyaikto, residents said. 

Extraneous pieces of a Chinese spacecraft crashed into the sea off the coasts of Arakan State’s Thandwe and Manaung townships at around 5:30 a.m. on November 23, according to locals.

Despite the arrival of the 2021-22 tourism season, visitor numbers to Arakan State remain stubbornly low, according to the state’s Directorate of Hotels and Tourism (DoHT). 

Almost 10 months since the military seized power in a February 1 coup, bank users and businesses in Arakan State continue to struggle with limited or nonexistent cash withdrawals and other banking services, as is the case in much of Myanmar. 

The Sittwe District Court on Monday rejected the appeal of former Arakan State Chief Minister U Nyi Pu, who was sentenced last month to two years’ imprisonment with hard labour, according to U Aung Myat Kyaw, a lawyer from the Thazin Legal Institute involved in the case.

The number of travellers along the Lemro River in Mrauk-U Township, Arakan State, is on the rise, according to the Isana travel agency, which sees the area as having growing tourism potential.

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is considering increasing funding for internally displaced people (IDPs) as basic food prices rise in Arakan State, Resident Representative of the UN agency in Myanmar Marcus Prior told DMG.
