The Arakan Army (AA) stated on October 8 that a faction of No 22 Tatmadaw troop burned down homes in Nwar Yone Taung and Kun Taung villages in Buthidaung Township on October 3 and 4.

A clash broke out between the Tatmadaw and the AA near Kyauktan Village of Rathedaung Township on 8 October and a 17-year-old civilian man died from gunfire, according to the locals.

A Muslim man from Sin Thay Byin village, Buthidaung Township, died after being hit an artillery shell on the evening of 7 October, a family member told the DMG.

 “Some people that have been interrogated are civilians, and people suffer from wars in different ways. Innocent people are suspected and arrested, now there are many arrested youths. We want soldiers not to target innocent people during battles,” she said. 

Seven IDP camps are under construction at the industrial zone in Ponnagyun Township, Ywar Thit Kay and Thaung Da Rar villages in Rathedaung Township, Mrauk-U Airport, Nidin village in Minbya Township, Myaung-Nar village in Buthidaung Township and Myothit ward in Kyauktaw Township, according to the government.

“We went to the area in the morning and had to take time to search for villagers. We arrived back in the afternoon,” said U Kyaw Myint Wai, head of Buthidaung Township Red Cross Association.

Six men from Kyauktan village in Rathedaung Township who have been detained and accused of involvement with the Arakan Army appeared in the Sittwe district court on 7 October.

The Arakan National Party (ANP) will investigate civilian deaths caused by the ongoing clashes in Arakan State and to issue a report, U Pe Than, member of the ANP’s policy-leading committee, told the DMG.
