Exacerbating the unemployment woes, residents in Arakan State are suffering from soaring food prices.

Due to a scarcity of drinking water, some people are suffering from diarrhoea and there are even reports of deaths due to lack of medicine, said U Aung Myint, manager of the displacement camp.

“Firewood and charcoal have run out in Sittwe. We now have to cut down trees on the compounds of our houses for firewood. We don’t know what will happen,” said a Sittwe resident.

Anti-regime forces occupied 52 towns across Myanmar during Operation 1027, with the Brotherhood Alliance occupying 28 towns in northern Shan State and Arakan State.

The AA has been attacking junta positions in Ann Township, where the Myanmar military’s Western Command headquarters is based, since March 24.

According to the BNI report, the fighting has been fiercest in Arakan and Kachin states and Sagaing Region since China brokered a ceasefire between the regime and the Brotherhood Alliance in northern Shan State.

Medicine shortages have been reported in Thandwe Township, where fighting between the military and Arakkha Army (AA) is escalating, due to the junta blockades of land and water routes, locals said.

At least 10 civilians were reportedly injured in a junta airstrike on Minbya town, Arakan State, at around 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

Fighting between the regime and the Arakkha Army (AA) in Arakan State’s Thandwe Township has brought the Tha Htay Chaung hydropower dam project to a sudden halt, according to residents.

The AA is using artillery and drones to attack junta battalions there, and the regime is using artillery and warplanes to defend against the AA onslaught.
