The Arakkha Army (AA) escorted more than 4,000 Muslims from Shwe Zarr (Muslim) village-tract in Arakan State’s Maungdaw Township to safety on Wednesday.
The displaced Muslims were fleeing junta shellings and airstrikes. AA members took them to safety in cars and three-wheelers.
The AA also evacuated sick and elderly villagers trapped in Zein Tu Lar (Muslim) Village in Maungdaw Township on Tuesday and escorted them to safer locations.
Fighting has intensified as the AA is attacking Border Guard Police Battalion No. 5 in Myo Thu Gyi Ward, on the outskirts of Maungdaw Town. Junta troops are deployed throughout the town to defend against the AA’s attacks.
