Casualties were reported and more than 200 homes in Bersara Village were destroyed by Cyclone Mocha, which made landfall over Arakan State with destructive force on May 14.

These photos were taken during a DMG reporter’s visit to Bersara, a Muslim village in Sittwe Township, on July 19.
The junta has promised the villagers that homes destroyed by the storm would be rebuilt, but so far has done nothing more. For now, most residents of Bersara Village are living a precarious existence.

The Bersara villagers have erected makeshift tents with the use of tarpaulin sheets provided by the junta, but remain in need of food, medicine and clean drinking water.
