Minbya Twsp man severely injured in landmine blast
A local man from Thamin Chayyar Village in Arakan State’s Minbya Township was severely wounded in a landmine explosion on Sunday.

A local man from Thamin Chayyar Village in Arakan State’s Minbya Township was severely wounded in a landmine explosion on Sunday.
The landmine victim has been identified as Ko Maung Aye Sein, 38. He was seriously injured after he stepped on the landmine while fishing in a creek west of Kyein Taung Pagoda on the morning of September 11, said Ko Ann Thar Gyi, who assisted the victim.
“He [Ko Maung Aye Sein] was injured after he stepped on a landmine in a bush west of the Myanmar military’s Light Infantry Battalion No. 541,” Ko Ann Thar Gyi explained.
Ko Maung Aye Sein sustained severe injuries to both legs in the landmine encounter and was admitted to Minbya Hospital.
“He was seriously wounded in the landmine explosion and is currently being treated at Minbya Hospital. Due to the severity of his injuries, both of Ko Maung Aye Sein’s legs are likely to be amputated. We are making arrangements to transfer him to Mrauk-U Hospital.”
An elderly man in Minbya Township lost one of his legs in a landmine blast while collecting firewood on August 5.
As of September 11, seven people had been killed and 22 others injured in encounters with landmines and explosive remnants of war (ERWs) in Arakan State so far this year, according to the Rakhine Ethnics Congress.
