The regime is constructing a permanent base in Kangyi Village on the road connecting Mindat in southern Chin State and Saw in Magway Region, while reinforcing the Kyaukhtu-based artillery regiment with personnel and weapons.

Local military sources said that after establishing a frontline base at the Kangyi Village junction on the Mindat-Saw-Kyaukhtu Road on April 25, junta troops have been using aircraft to resupply ammunition and provisions to Artillery Battalion No. 368 in Kyaukhtu.

From April 28 to early May, the regime reportedly used Y-12 aircraft to strengthen the artillery battalion in Kyaukhtu.

“In recent days, the regime has been continuously dropping packages believed to contain ammunition into the artillery battalion in Kyaukhtu using Y-12 aircraft. There is also constant aerial surveillance,” a local military source said.

Junta troops are carrying out military activities in Kangyi Village by setting up outposts, conducting patrols, and occupying houses along the main road.

As a result, residents from Kyantaw, Pyinlel, and Yintye villages near Kangyi Village have fled to safer areas to avoid possible clashes.

“Many villages near Kangyi are now displaced. Since regime forces have occupied houses and started digging trenches, people are worried that fighting will break out soon,” a resident from Saw said.

The increased military preparations, including aerial reinforcement of the Kyaukhtu artillery regiment and the fortification of Kangyi Village with trenches, have heightened concerns among locals about an imminent battle.

Military analysts said that as Kyaukhtu Town is located about six miles from Kangyi Village and just over 10 miles from Mindat Township in Chin State, there is a strong possibility that regime forces may launch an offensive toward Mindat.

Kangyi Village is an important transport and communication link connecting southern Chin State to Arakan State.
