A police lieutenant was shot dead by a police constable on Friday night, according to local residents close to the police station.
The victim was identified as Police Lieutenant Ohn Zaw Htay, and he was reportedly shot dead by Police Constable Soe Lin Aung inside the police station around 10:30 p.m. on Friday.
“There was a farewell party at the police station as the chief of the township police force was transferred. There they drank and fought, resulting in shooting. Myanmar military troops also arrived following the incident. Security has been tight,” said a source.
More than 10 gunshots were heard, and the police constable fled with his gun, said the source.
DMG was unable to contact the Kyaukphyu Township police station to verify the shooting.
