More than 300 houses in five villages of northern Maungdaw Township, Arakan State, were inundated by floodwaters and three inter-village bridges were washed away, according to village officials.

Patients and oxygen cylinders were evacuated to safer locations due to flooding at Thandwe District Hospital in Thandwe Township, Arakan State, on Tuesday morning and cremations were delayed after the township cemetery was inundated by heavy rains.

Three novices from the Sasana Linkarya Monastery in Arakan State’s Mrauk-U Township tested positive for coronavirus on July 22. The three novices range in age from 9 to 12. 

The Arakan State Administration Council has instructed healthcare workers not to give interviews to media outlets unless necessary to avoid misinterpretation, adding that the order was intended to prevent misunderstanding between health workers and members of the public.
