Food prices have hit record highs in Arakan State, with the cost of most foodstuffs having increased markedly over pre-coup levels.

A standard vaccine regimen for children to protect against certain diseases typically runs from the ages of two months to 10 years old.

A total of 496 people — 230 in Mrauk-U, 129 in Minbya, 90 in Kyauktaw and 47 in Ponnagyun — have been disabled by the military-AA hostilities since the latest fighting in Arakan State began in November 2023.

No clashes have been reported in Kyeintali since dozens of junta soldiers retreated from the town on August 13 and took positions in Kalarpyin Village

There were 2,539 clashes from January to April between Myanmar’s military regime and resistance forces, according to Nyan Lin Thit Analytica, a local research group.

The public healthcare system covering its more recent territorial claims was launched in January, said Dr. Ba Thet, spokesman for the health department of Shan State Special Region 1.

The SAC-M urged the ULA/AA to cooperate fully with an independent international investigative team to enter Arakan State to investigate the treatment of Rohingya and other civilians in the state.

The World Health Organization (WHO) on August 14 declared that mpox, with origins traced to Africa’s Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), had reached the status of a “public health emergency of international concern.”

Local organisations are also struggling to help IDPs. Charity members are themselves displaced by the fighting in many cases, are short of funds, and cannot contact international humanitarian organisations.

“We will continue to fight all forms of dictatorship, including military dictatorship, in unity with fellow revolutionary organisations and like-minded organisations,” said the council in its statement.

The regime’s attacks on civilian areas can and have killed many people, sometimes in the blink of an eye, leaving civilian populations feeling insecure psychologically and physically.

Some have accused the AA of committing human rights violations, such as massacres of Muslims, deliberate firing of heavy weapons, and illegal extortion during the battle for control of Maungdaw.

As the KA commemorated the 76th anniversary of its founding on Saturday, Brig-Gen Aung Myat called on the ethnic armed group to stand by the people with unwavering faith.

“We don’t know why we have to register. We feel unsafe after giving our names and citizenship ID data,” said a displaced man staying in Kyaukmyaung Township.

At least 30 junta soldiers from the Danyawaddy naval base based in Kyaukphyu fired warning shots in the air after villagers began to flee, said residents.

The victims are reportedly residents of Kyeintali's Ward-2. Eleven people who were injured in the junta air attack - six women and five men - are said to be receiving treatment from the Arakkha Army (AA).

Countrywide, an estimated 3 million people are internally displaced, with many of the recently displaced living without proper shelter amid the monsoon season, the UNOCHA Myanmar report added.

Fighting has further intensified in and around Maungdaw Town recently as the AA is attacking the junta’s Border Guard Police Battalion No. 5, the last junta battalion defending the town, according to sources on the ground.
